Bridal Skin and Hair Prep: Your Timeline for the Last 3 Months

What to do three months, one month, one week and the night before, so your skin and hair are ready for the day.

The most beautiful bridal makeup starts weeks before the wedding. Calm, hydrated skin and healthy hair make everything easier, and they make the look last longer. You don't need an expensive routine, you need a steady one. Here is the timeline I give my brides.

Before anything else, tell me about allergies, contact lenses, sensitive or oily skin, oily hair or extensions, at your trial or on our video call. Everything else is planned around that.

3 months before

  • Find a simple routine that works for you: cleanser, moisturiser, sunscreen, and stick to it.
  • Start any treatments now, not later. Peels and new actives need time for the skin to settle.
  • Book your hair colour plan with your hairdresser, so the final colour is done 1–2 weeks before.
  • Book your makeup and hair trial for about 2 months before the wedding.

1 month before

  • No new skincare products from now on.
  • Hydrate: water, a good moisturiser, and sleep where you can.
  • Get a trim for healthy ends, especially if you plan to wear your hair down.
  • If you want extensions, plan them with your hairdresser and bring them to the trial.

1–2 weeks before

  • Last hair colour and cut.
  • Brows shaped or tinted at least 5–7 days before, so any redness is gone.
  • No new facials, peels or waxing on the face.
  • Spray tan, if you want one, 2–3 days before, and tell me so I match the base.

The night before

  • Cleanse, moisturise, and go to sleep early.
  • Wash your hair the evening before or the morning of, as we agreed at the trial. Skip heavy conditioner near the roots.
  • Lay out a button-up shirt or robe so you can get dressed without touching your hair and makeup.

On the wedding morning

  • Come with a clean face, no makeup or heavy creams.
  • Eat breakfast and drink water.
  • Wear your robe or shirt, and keep your shoes and dress ready for later.

Questions

Should I get a facial before my wedding?+

Only one you have had before, and not in the last two weeks. New treatments can cause redness or breakouts.

Should I wash my hair on the wedding morning?+

It depends on your hair and the style. We decide at the trial; many styles hold better on hair washed the evening before.

What if I break out right before the wedding?+

Don't squeeze it. Leave it calm, and colour correction will cover it on the day.

Questions about your skin? Ask me before your trial and we will plan around it.
