Do I Really Need a Bridal Makeup Trial? (And How to Do One From Abroad)

What happens at a trial, when to book it, what to bring, and what to do if you live abroad.

Short answer: yes, if you can. The trial is where your wedding look is actually designed. On the day there is no time to experiment, so everything we decide at the trial is what you will wear in every photo for the rest of your life.

What happens at a trial

  • We talk about your dress, your hair, the venue and the time of day of your ceremony.
  • You show me photos you love, and just as important, photos you don't.
  • I create the full look, then we adjust: softer eyes, a different lip, more or less glow.
  • We take photos in daylight and with flash, so you see what the camera sees.
  • You wear it for the rest of the day to see how it feels and how it lasts.

When to book it

Two to three months before the wedding works for most brides. Your skin is settled, you know your dress and hairstyle, and there is still time to change something. If you plan a tan, a new hair colour or skin treatments, tell me, because they change the look.

The trial takes place in my studio, at your hotel or wherever we agree. It is also where we talk through allergies, contact lenses, sensitive skin and your hair, so nothing surprises us on the day.

What to bring

  • Photos of your dress, the neckline matters most
  • Your veil or hair accessories, if you have them
  • Inspiration photos, and a few looks you don't want
  • A white or light top, so the colours read like they will with your dress
  • Your skincare routine, so I can prep your skin the way it is used to

Marrying in Slovenia from abroad?

Many of my brides live in other countries and arrive a few days before the wedding. There are two good ways to do this:

A trial a few days before the wedding. If you arrive early, we do the trial in Slovenia. It is the best option: your skin is in the same climate it will be on the day.

Planning remotely. If that is not possible, we plan together over video call. You send me photos of your skin in daylight without makeup, your dress and your inspiration, and we talk through the look. On the morning of the wedding I start with your skin and we fine-tune before anything is final.

Questions

Can I skip the trial?+

You can, but I don't recommend it for a wedding. If there is truly no time, a video consultation is the next best thing.

Should I do my trial on the same day as my hair trial?+

Yes, if you can. Hair and makeup work together, and you see the full look at once.

What if I don't like the look at my trial?+

That is exactly what the trial is for. We change it until it feels like you.

Planning your trial? Tell me your wedding date and I will suggest the best time.
